Problem with Scam Lists

February 27, 2009

You might notice that I don’t try to make a list of scam sites here. If I list a site and it doesn’t work or turns out to be a scam I will immediately remove it and/or let you know.

I try to focus on the sites that work, rather than the sites that don’t. Maybe it’s that little bit of optimism in me clawing to get out. ;-)

There are problems with scam lists though, and that’s what this post is really about. I’ve been running into a bunch of sleezy looking “scam” lists lately. They’re mostly aimed at PTC sites (with some exceptions), and the people that are copy & pasting them have a few things in common:

  • English is obviously not their first language (I don’t know why this has been the case every time for this specific list).
  • They don’t even bother to research the sites they list (This right here ticks me off)
  • They all copy and paste the list from a certain source, though I don’t know who gives the first list.

I’ve found SimpleGPT to be on this copy and paste unresearched list. The funny part is they don’t even list SimpleGPT.com they list the FORUM LINK. I emailed one recently that refused to remove SimpleGPT no matter how much evidence was provided that it is not a scam, even though she admitted multiple times that she had never even heard of SimpleGPT. She changed the link to SimpleGPT.com after refusing to remove it or even research it after seeing the proof! You can see that scam list here. Feel free to email her and let her know that SimpleGPT is legit!

SimpleGPT is legit and if you have any questions feel free to ask. You can check my Payment Proof post, and I’ll help with any thing I can.

I can tell you that if there is anybody that did not receive payment from SimpleGPT it is because they were banned for fraudulent activities (or a similar reason). Please read the TOS and follow the rules. This goes for any site.

Always research any site before you join it!

Currently Watching (TV) 2/26

February 25, 2009

Here’s a list of the “TV” shows we’re currently watching. (We actually watch everything on Hulu, Netflix’s Watch Instantly, DVD, etc.)

Hell’s Kitchen

We watched the fourth season from start to finish on Hulu, and now we’re watching the fifth season as it becomes available. We saw episodes 1 – 3 last night.

Kitchen Nightmares

Waiting for new episodes. The last one we saw was Cafe 36 (season 1 episode 22)

Legend of the Seeker

We just watched Home (season 1 episode 12).

Family Guy

The next episode is supposed to be out March 8! The most recent one was hilarious (Ocean’s Three and a Half).

American Dad

New episode coming on March 1!

Doctor Who

David Tennant is my favorite Doctor. Seriously. We watched all the way through the new Doctor Who, and we’ve started over as we watch it again with my sister. Love it!

Red Dwarf

They made it available on Netflix’s Watch Instantly! So we’ve been re-watching Red Dwarf. They’re actually filming new episodes of Red Dwarf RIGHT NOW.

Torchwood

We actually just recently finished watching what is available for Torchwood.

Recap for 2/25

Today was very enjoyable, and filled with excitement and frustration and smiles. I was up most of the night (surprise…?), though we watched what is available from this season’s Hell’s Kitchen on Hulu (Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen are awesome). This morning my mom dropped in with Burger King for breakfast. I had a chicken biscuit and medium cheesy tots =D. She picked up Noah to spend some time with him, and of course that meant some time with Lynn (wink wink).

Thoughts and ideas and rants, oh my!

February 24, 2009

Right now I’m enjoying a lovely cup of coffee with italian sweet cream creamer. Just thought I’d note that. =P

Today’s been weird. I woke up about 4:30 AM and caught up online. Ended up napping several times. I just couldn’t get enough sleep today! In between naps I’ve been thinking, and I have so many ideas but I can’t seem to just focus on one or two. Lynn and I have been talking about some things for income. Being unemployed has been rough, but we’ve managed to make it so far. With my skills, job history, etc. I can’t even seem to get a good interview lately. It has been months since my last one; the economy sucks.

SwagBucks, SwagCodes, and secret policy.

February 20, 2009

When SwagBucks first released the Swagcodes, they apparently had no idea that the codes would be as popular as they are.

ETA: I am an active member of SwagBucks, and this is posted with respect. I encourage everybody to follow the rules on all of the sites that I promote, but that’s hard to do when the rules are not clear. Please know that this is in no way intended to “bash” or insult SwagBucks in any way.

Trying new search sites

I’m trying out some new (well, new for me) search sites. If you’ve tried them, please drop a comment and let me know what you think! If not, feel free to check them out. Just use them like you normally would use a search engine and you’ll earn/win in no time.

If you’re interested in seeing a list of sites I actively use, check out Geek Dad’s Guide to Free Stuff and Payment Proof.

Blingo

Blingo is a Search & Win site by PCH. From what I’ve read this one really does work, but you may not see immediate results because it is a true Search & Win site, so you’ll win randomly. There is a decent range of different prizes you can win. The search is powered by Yahoo, Live, and Ask.

Earn money with Scour!

Scour is points based searching. You can get up to 3 points per search (1 point for searching, 1 point for voting, and 1 point for commenting), and you can cash in your points for visa gift cards. Search results by Google, Yahoo, and MSN – and you can customize which search engine carries more weight in your searches! Very nice site, and it looks like it has a lot of promise. Get 50 points just for signing up.

mySearchBonus

I’m not really sure about this one. The design is very simple, and I’m having a hard time finding reviews for it. This search site is points based, so you get 1 point per search. Nice range of prizes, too, and the points requirements are pretty reasonable for the prizes. You get 50 points for signing up.

Update: I did some research on this one (mySearchBonus) and found many reviews about how people not only didn’t get their prizes, but after ordering their prizes they received emails with the following message:

During the order review process, your account was cited for abuse. As a result, all of your points have been removed, and any pending orders have been canceled. This decision has been manually reviewed by our support team and can not be reversed. It is our policy not to answer any further inquiries regarding the method and/or technology used to determine abuse.

A few people? Sure, I can understand that some people commit fraud. It’s sad but it happens. There wasn’t even a decent balance between people who did and didn’t receive their prizes; I found one person that claims to have received a gift card (no proof) and everything else I read was followed up with that email after they redeemed their prize and waited 8 – 10 weeks. My advice is don’t join, and don’t waste your time. Try the other sites instead.

Updated 9/19/2009
Removed a few dud sites from this. Will revisit later to see what needs to be done with this post.
Please see my other blog, N.G. Woosh on Free Stuff for more great free stuff websites.

If you haven’t read Geek Dad’s Guide to Free Stuff, you should do so before reading these tips.

If you’re reading this, then chances are you’re already a member of one of the sites in the guide linked above, or you’re considering joining one. I’m going to give you several tips on how to succeed with some of these websites. You may already know this information, but if not then this could really help you. Please note that I am 100% against botting, cheating, any form of fraud, etc. and you will not find any sort of that information here.
