Sometimes I just really want to write something but I’m not sure what to write about. Sure it may interest me, but will it interest people stopping by? I blog for myself, but I blog for the people reading too. I want you to read what I say and smile, laugh, or think; I want it to be worth your time. I don’t want you to read it and think, "Man, I want the last X amount of minutes of my life back."

I read a lot of blogs and webcomics and webcomic blogs. There are a lot of sites I like to keep track of, and a while back I started using FireFox for RSS subscriptions with a sidebar add-on. After the first 50 or so subscriptions I noticed that FireFox became laggy when it would check for updates – it may not have helped that I had it set to check every few minutes, but that’s exactly what I wanted. So I recently swapped over to Google Reader (and for any of you that have seen my twitter, you already know this has been frustrating) and tried out Google Reader Notifier for FireFox. Google Reader Notifier is a great concept but for some reason it just wouldn’t work. So I tried Google Reader Watcher for FireFox and it worked for a few days, and then suddenly just stopped. Now both add-ons claim that they are unable to log in and nothing I’ve tried has brought either one to life.

So yesterday I asked Lynn to help me find a solution. After finding nothing working/up to date, she came across NewsGator + FeedDemon. I’m working a few kinks out but so far I can say this: it actually notifies me when there’s an update! We’ll see if I stick with this one or go hunting again after a few days. I do like it, and that tends to be a good thing.
