Why So Sad? Update!
August 2, 2009Why So Sad?
July 31, 2009Crazy July Update Time
July 14, 2009I haven’t been posting much – shame on me.
Friday was my birthday… it’s cool, I’ll just pause here for a second while I wait for your reply to that. ;-)
Anyway, Friday was a great day. Fun, family, all you can eat crab legs/seafood buffet for me and Lynn (courtesy of my parents), and more than I could put into one blog post. My family is pretty awesome.
Saturday, Dad’s birthday (notice a trend with my family and July? Me too). Happy Birthday Dad! We mowed the lawn! It was fun and Wednesday’s Wordless Wednesday post will be sort of a result of that. Be afraid!
Was there a Sunday? Let’s skip to Monday.
Monday was BUSY and frustrating, but I’m happy with all that was accomplished before the day was over. Not really up for all of the details, but know that there was much running around town for errands to be done and it certainly was done.
Today was pretty interesting. I woke up to discover I had missed a phone call by about ten minutes that turned out to be for a next day job interview. How awesome is that? I’m very excited! I’ve been looking for a job for a while now and this one is perfect for me. I can’t tell you how much I need this job. Other than that, most of my day was spent cleaning. If you have me on any given messenger you probably noticed that my status had something to do with cleaning all day. I’d like to think that a lot was accomplished today.
What will happen tomorrow? There’s only one way to find out.
Changes Changes and Updates
July 9, 2009Sorry to have been so quiet lately – I normally try to drop an update in, even if it is just some fun pictures or something. I’ve finally done what I’ve been trying to convince myself to do for years: I picked a Linux Distro that works well and went with it.
Which one did I pick? I am now running Ubuntu 9.04 and loving it.
However, I did have to sacrifice Windows Live Writer but it’s okay, I’m surviving without it. I really enjoyed using it, and there just isn’t a suitable replacement on Linux (not that there was on Windows either – they did a good job with WLW). Right now I’m posting from ScribeFire, a Firefox plugin that seems to do the trick, at least for now. I might be setting up XP on Virtual Box and running it within Linux, but that’s work for another day.
So Geek Dad didn’t fall off the face of the earth, but don’t be so disappointed! You never know what will happen next.
For those of you that want to keep track of me outside of the blog, visit my Contact/Me Online page and you’ll find me all over the place. Don’t worry, I’ll be posting here again soon. I just need to finish up with the fun parts of completely backing up your computer, wiping it out, and installing a completely new OS.
Late Night Ramblings 7/4
July 4, 2009So I stayed up way later than I should have and I got very little done and I loved every minute of it. It’s after midnight so welcome to July 4th.
To my readers in the USA: Happy Independence Day! Don’t blow your hand(s) off with those fireworks. That scar you have from last year is healing nicely!
I guess I did get a few things done, just nothing major:
- Updated the Contact Me page: Renamed it to Contact/Me Online and added Facebook and Vimeo to the list. Check it out!
- Added Facebook Connect to the Disqus commenting options. Now you can comment using your Facebook login! Pretty nifty eh?
- I wrote this post! It’s one of those weird random posts of mine, but I wrote it!
- I edited the following picture that displays only a fraction of how awesome I am. Any more awesome and you would need a new computer monitor.

Off to do that sleep thing now.
One of "Those" Posts
June 23, 2009I don’t have a clue what to write, so I’m just going to babble. Does that work for you? It sure does for me.
I’ve thought about it a lot today and I just couldn’t settle on a topic. Don’t know why really… maybe the thoughts were too scattered. Maybe not. I sure did feel like yesterday’s post was lame, but I liked it at the same time. I’m weird like that, but if you’ve been here before you already know that.
I like the challenge I gave to myself to write every day this month. Sometimes I write early, sometimes I end up not writing until 11 PM, like today. I’ve forced myself to stick with it, and I’m thrilled to have done so.
Things have been exciting, crazy, fun, and a mix of the three. Still no job interviews, though I did have an email from Verizon Wireless informing me that I am unqualified to work for them. Funny how they have idiots that don’t know the difference between an SD card and a Micro SD card working in Technical Support but I’m the one unqualified. I could REALLY rant on and on about that one but I won’t. Why not? I already did that, but I’m too lazy to link it right now. I’m more qualified to work for them in sales, customer support, and technical support than anybody I’ve spoken with actually working in those positions is. Gah! Moving on…
I did receive a phone call informing me that I stole the man’s phone. I’m fairly certain he was drunk, but I got called all sorts of nasty things for supposedly stealing his phone. I informed him that he had the wrong number and hung up. It was a local number, so when I saw him beeping in I got excited thinking it was a possible job interview – I’m going to say that was a fail. No, I did not steal his phone. >.>
I really want to write some new Humor Rants.

June 20, 2009There Will Be Cake
April 30, 2009It’s funny how I have all of these fun things to talk about when I’m talking to people, but when I want to blog all I can blog about is having nothing to blog about.
Crap, see what I mean? By the way, if you can read all the way through to the end of this post, there is cake waiting for you.
Today’s (well, being after midnight, it’s yesterday’s really) annoyance: parents who complain about the content of a site, comic, some internet related thing, or whatever it may be because their kid is easily influenced, or has been influenced by said choice of entertainment.
If you put a 13 year old boy in a room with dirty magazines, what is going to happen? He’s going to look at the magazines. The internet can be exactly that! If you don’t want your kid to see something on the internet, be a parent and take charge and watch what your kid does online!
There are some great family friendly sites and sources of entertainment on the internet, and there are plenty of not very family friendly places… but instead of getting angry with the sites being there, why don’t you be the parent? These sites aren’t responsible for parenting your kid! You are. Or did you forget?
Enough of that rant.

There’s been a lot going on lately, huh? Here’s a bunch of random stuff.
We went through some fun stomach virus, and we’ve been catching up since then. Those things can really throw you off track.
I’ve been on a tea kick for a while, that’s awesome. Good ol’ southern sweet tea, green tea, white tea, red tea, vanilla chai tea, chamomile tea, peppermint tea, and so many variations of teas. Hot, cold, sugar, honey, whatever fits at the time. If nothing else, it’s all good with way too much sugar. =P
And in the outside world, we’re combating swine flu and paranoia. Did I mention swine flu just for the hits? No, but I don’t mind them. I’ve read a lot about the swine flu and in the paranoia the only thing I haven’t seen yet is somebody calling it a sign of the end of the world or just the end of the world. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying somebody hasn’t said it, I’m just saying I haven’t seen it yet. Lots of crazy stuff though. Can somebody link me to an article with that sort of radical view? It would amuse me.
My opinion? It’s hyped up. Be smart, not paranoid. I’m not downplaying it… and the deaths caused by it are sad, but the seasonal flu that is constantly changing also kills some while many survive. Unfortunately though this is life. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger, so I guess what does kill us kills us dead? Not that I want to die from something involving a pig. I eat those! I’m supposed to point out irony, not be the example. ;)
This will pass and another thing will come along. Something always does.
At least if it zombifies us, I’ve got my Zombie Avatar (Zombatar) thanks to PopCap. Been playing Half-Life 2, trying to beat the game (first time playing, yeah I’m a little late) and I’d much rather look like my Zombatar than a Half-Life zombie. It’s fun when you’re playing at 5 AM with your headphones on and you’re the only one awake in a dark room. Not in a “Mommy – I made fudge!” kind of way… or is it? Still, it’s a good kind of thrill, and a great game. I’ve definitely enjoyed playing, and I’m glad that Lynn doesn’t mind my taking some time to play it. Played through Portal again too.
Hmm, this got kind of long. If you didn’t give up halfway down the post and close the page, I appreciate you making it this far. Unfortunately for you, the cake is a lie.
Updates and inspiration and a new post, oh my!
April 15, 2009There have been a few updates lately, though writing a post seems to constantly escape me. In the last 24 hours I’ve started three or four and they all either ended up as drafts or they were deleted, never to be seen again.
If you’ve been here before, you might have noticed that the sidebars have been slightly rearranged. If you’ve been here before using IE, you might notice that the right sidebar is no longer broken and is the correct size now. If you’re here on IE, it’s time to get FireFox.
Oh, and that huge header image is different. How’d that happen?
I was going to put a little "About" blurb on one of the sidebars but I decided to jazz up the header a bit instead. Somebody asked me what my blog was about and honestly, I write this stuff and I had to think about it to give an answer. Well, it’s about everything, it’s about anything, and it’s about nothing at all… and I like it like that.
By the way, have you ever checked out some of the things on my sidebars? I have some great links on the right side, such as Addanac City and Kawaii Not – two great webcomics! Their owners have a great sense of humor, and if you follow them on twitter they’re not too good or too busy to reply to you. That’s a plus for me, because I enjoy interacting with the people I follow. No, they had no idea I would write that.
I guess that’s all for now… if you’re looking for a new movie to see, Igor and Yes Man were both pretty good.
